Historical and Spiritual Heritage of Liska



Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. By the late 1800s, Liska had a largely Jewish population, with around 3,000 residents contributing to its vibrant life. The influence of Liska’s heritage extends to nearby towns like Kerestir, shaping Jewish life across Hungary. Close to 5,000 visitors arrive annually in Liska, reflecting its role as a spiritual destination.
